The God Particle - C.J. Scarlett

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you C.J. Scarlett!

To be honest, I didn't know what I would think of this book. I hadn't been a huge fan of Scarlett's previous book The Ambassador's Bride. However, I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed this book! It was well written sci-fi, that included action, romance (a proper amount for this book), surprise and suspense. I have to say, I was genuinely surprised by that plot twist at the end.

I loved Jeanell as a main character. She is intelligent, and strong, and refuses to be the victim or the cause of human loss of life. I loved getting inside her head and reading her thought process. She is truly a model.

Another aspect I enjoyed were the nods to political references of today. Oh yes, I caught those Scarlett.

My only criticism, would be that the last two chapters felt a little to HEA to my liking. A little to epilogue-ish for the amount action that had just occurred. The narration also felt slightly cliché during those chapters, and it seemed as though the voice changed a little. Overall though, I liked it!

The Ambassador's Bride - C.J. Scarlett

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks C.J. Scarlett!

This book has a lot of potential. Like a 10 metric tons of potential! I rate books on their current status and I believe this book can easily reach a four star rating.

The first thing that could be improved in this book is the depth of perspective. It appears that most of what Rose cares about is going on the beach. She has no reservations, and I mean absolutely none, about moving to another planet which is inhabited by human-like aliens. She also has no qualms about marrying someone she hasn't met yet - quite old-fashioned for a futuristic novel.

Another aspect that could be improved is the nature and/or length of misunderstandings. They must have had foreseen cultural missteps in the presence of another species and vice versa. Their arguments could have easily been dismissed if this was taken into account. In addition, if the argument could not have been dismissed, I wished it would have lasted longer to give a greater impact.

Lastly, I wished that the kidnapping incident would have been more serious and longer. That damage was inflicted or something, because it lacked purpose. The book needed some oomph moments.

With that said, this book made me laugh and I LOVED THE ENDING LINES. So ready and pumped for book 2!
