I received an ARC of this book from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it. Thank you Christina Kaye!
This is the kind of suspense you just cannot put down. I tried three times, and ended up only putting it away for a grand five seconds, before picking it back up to read what happened next!
Kaye intrigues us and makes us question the working of the judicial system. How innocents may plead guilty simply to avoid the death penalty. This puts into question not only the efficacy of the court system, but the validity of the death penalty. She also puts forth how not all detectives are impartial and vois of stereotypical thoughts. The author is brave enough to raise all these questions, and I’m so glad she did!
I really enjoyed how Kaye doesn’t make the book “black” and “white”, because what is real life is? She makes her characters layered, and portrays human nature so well. She will make you second guess her characters. She will plant a seed of doubt in your mind, like she has to her characters throughout the story.
This was the second book by Christina Kaye I have read, and this will definitely not be the last book I read by her!
