I received an ARC of this book from the author via Enticing Journey Book Promotions. Thank you Jane Anthony!
What a ride this book was. I could not put this book down, I tell you! It had the perfect balance of darkness and light throughout, yet still kept you anxious about the outcome of the story. Anthony kept us on the edge of our seat for the whole of the book, and that is not easy to do.
I really liked how all of Anthony's characters were different. I know this may sound weird, but hear me out. All of the characters have inherently different views and personalities. You may say: "Well obviously!", but that is something that stood out for me that is different from many other books I have read. They don't all agree on the same things, and they don't all think the same things. Anthony has given them a life of their own, and that takes talent.
The themes explored in this book are, yes. heartwrenching, but also super important to have out in the open. Anthony demonstrates the psychological side of an abuse victim perfectly in my opinion from before, to during, to after. The diaries are brilliant and give great insights on Hope's past.
I truly recommend this book to, well, everyone who can handle it and its subject matter.
