I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Caroline Peckham!
What an original take on a vampire novel. This is not your Twilight or Vampire Diaries. In fact, the heroine isn't even a vampire. I just realized that made it exactly like the two works mentioned above (oh well, a failed analogy). The author herself states it is a Hunger Games meets True Blood and I couldn't agree more.
The V Games were riveting and super captivating. I liked the whole structure of the Games; how there were different challenges and such. The whole cultural yet secretive aspects of the games were interesting. Yes, it is similar to The Hunger Games, but it us different and is it's own concept.
What I think the author did very well was clearly portray the world she created. It was simple to understand yet still had a traditional culture attached to it. I liked how concise and uncomplicated the workings of this reality were.
Another aspect the author succeeded in I believe, was the whole psychological facet of the games. How the players interact with each other, and how they react to the situations they are put in. Also how those reactions change to similar situations as the games go on.
Overall, a really good book, and I look forward to the sequel!
