when everything feel like the movies - raziel reid

I've been wanting to read this book for awhile, it being recommended on CBC Reads, winning awards and all. Therefore, when I saw it at the used bookstore over the weekend, I just had to have it! Here's what I thought.

I want to start off by mentioning how important this book is. Homophobia is real and it affects many people's lives. This book is about Jude (Judy) who is a gay/transvestite. He is constantly bullied by his fellow classmates, but he stays true to himself throughout the novel. "It's better to be hated for who you are, than be lived fir who you aren't". 

The parallel of this book to a movie and Hollywood i found was interesting, but for some reason it didnt sit well with me. I think sometimes it overshadowed the actual story. 

With that said, this is book that educates us and lets us know that there is still immense work left to be done as a society in accepting LGBT communities. ​
