I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Cecily Wolfe!
This book took me by surprise. It was unlike anything I'd ever read. It was hard coming up with a rating for this one, as I had no similar book to compare it to, so I decided to rate it on originality (check), intrigue (check), and plot (double check).
What really impressed me about this book are two things; how the author does not fall into the "standard" plot lines we typically find today, and how complex her character web is. There are so many integral characters to this story, and it is fascinating to see them all interact.
Wolfe demonstrates in this book that many people are after something, and will do anything to obtain it. In this particular case, it was money. The author really portrayed well how cunning greedy people can get. It's all about personal gain, and at times, it's really disheartening.
I loved how the ending is not what we expect, and how she was brave enough to stick to her guns, and write an unconventional finale. I felt that the ending of the book is fitting, and satisfactory, despite it being different from norm. *cue applause*
