Empire of Storms - Sarah J. Maas

Can I refuse to acknowledge what I just read? It's too painful

I have just finished reading Empire of Storms and my mind as well as my heart have been blown into fractions. Multiple times. It took me a LONG time to read this book because I was constantly reading ARCs which needed reviewing which left this book on the back burner; gasp.

Can I just say that Sarah J. Maas has this incredible knack for creating characters with both qualities and faults that we all fall in love with? Aelin, Lyssandra, Manon, Dorian, Lorcan... And it just sets us up for so much heartbreak. I swear I wanted to throw my book across the room near the end. My heart was breaking in torturous slow motion.

That ending, gosh. I was in tears. In tears of loss, of the love present, of the glimmer of hope sparked. My heart is still racing from the adrenaline after 30 minutes.

This story is incredibly complex, layered, and clever. So much in fact, that my theory is that Sarah J. Maas is a mastermind. The characters are cunning and have clouded intentions, creating a fog that is only lifted infinitely slowly as the books progress.

I would also like to point out the amount of strong and confident females in posts of authority in this novel? Female powerhouse over here.

I have been with this series from its very beginnings, waiting for each book, and this last wait, may very well be the death of me.

Aelin showed much growth in this book. We really got to see, as readers, the vulnerability she is trying to hide from everyone. This makes her more relatable and my love for her goes on. She is just a great heroine, who is thrown into a role in the midst of rebellions and unstable kingdoms. She does everything to the best of her capabilities and I admire her for that. She truly shows that she doesn't give up for those she loves and even those she may not know very well.

I absolutely love the new "relationship" (if I can even call it that) between Manon and Aelin. It is bound to be a great asset to the plot of the next book. I am interested to see where Sarah J Maas will go with this, and knowing her, it is going to be fantastic as always.

Sarah J Maas has such a grasp of how to write enticingly. Her words and worlds are utterly captivating and keep you reading
page after page until you have finished the book and you wonder where all those hours just went. It's as if you've stepped foot in another universe completely.

A Court of Thorns and Roses - Sarah J Maas

I just recently finished ACOTAR. I was blown away. There are many reasons why I absolutely loved this book. (Contains spoilers so keep reading on your own accord)

Firstly, although Feyre becomes a High Lord at the end of the book, she accomplishes all the daunting tasks and faces fearsome Fae with a stoic courage that is worth striving for. She follows her heart to the best of her capabilities and I greatly admire her for that. In many other books I have read, the main character is always special. Special in the sense that they are not human and therefore explains why they were able to do all those wonderful things. In ACOTAR, we are proven through fantasy fiction that we, humans, can achieve greatness if we only choose to follow our hearts.

Secondly, the antagonist of this novel was extremely cunning and sneaky and God I loved to hate her. She was so interesting and manipulative.

Thirdly, Rhysand was one of my favourite characters in the book. He did everything in his power to help Feyre and avoid collateral damage. He is respectable (to a point) and that makes me like him.

Fourthly, the Feyre & Tamlin action between the sheets got me all hot and bothered if you know what I mean ;)

Lastly, the plot Sarah J. Mass created was beautifully weaved together to perfection. (Yes, my poetic side comes out when I review beautiful books) The world she created is immaculate and utterly captivating. Thank you Sarah J. Maas for another great start to a series I cannot wait to continue.
