Lylah James is one hell of a talented author. There is something special that happens when you read one of her books. She writes magic, and it blows me away. EVERY. DAMN. TIME.

James has a very distinct style of writing. It has musicality, tempo, rhythm. She uses pauses expertly. She uses breaks to her advantage. She uses punctuation to create an ambiance and a mood. She is one of the best authors out there when it comes to that. I kid you not. Her use of repetition also adds to the rhythmic writing of hers. She goes from smooth passages to sharp sentences in a heartbeat, and it creates something special.

There were SO many twists in this story. So many times where your head would spin and your heart would ache. There are hard scenes, but necessary scenes. Life isn’t just roses and rainbows. No, it’s heartache and hardship too. Lylah James brings us both in this book.

It wouldn’t be a Lylah James book if it wasn’t also super damn HAWT. Omg, the heat she brings into this book is OFF THE CHARTS. Like excise me while I blush on the train. *tilts kindle away from all passengers* This book is basically the full package.

Do yourself a favour and READ THIS BOOK! And if you haven’t read Lylah James yet, then what are you waiting for??

I received an ARC of this book from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it. Thank you Lylah James!

James has done it again. What a ride. The author is such a talented writer. She literally takes my breath sway with her descriptions; pun intended. She transports the readers with her words, and that is no easy feat. There are just so many wonderfully written passages, so many great one-liners, so much emotion in the writing. It reads beautifully.

The author is also very good at creating complex characters. Characters that are layered. They are like onions. She will peel away one layer at a time, and the more she peels away, the more you will cry. (That’s what I call a perfect simile).

Lylah James likes to toy with her readers. She won’t do the obvious; which is what makes our hearts race at 100 km/h (I’m Canadian, the metric system rules m’kay?). She keeps us hungry for more. More onions! (Consistency is key) And in true Lylah James fashion, she will leave you hanging with an ending that will make you scream. Let’s just admit it, we love being destroyed.

I cannot wait for Part 2! James just keeps hitting these out of the ball park!

Oh my GAWD! Even knowing the outcome of this novel before reading it, I could not help but be completely shattered by this story. It is written in a way that captures your mind. You will connect with the characters, and you will embark with them on their story.

Maria's past is so heartbreaking, and the way she is just shatters your soul. Her purity is beautiful; it's enchanting. James's character building is flawless. All her characters are unique, and the way they interact with each other is coherent. It makes sense.

This reads as a story that the author took time to write. It's well crafted, and not rushed. Things make sense. The atmosphere of the novel is consistent. The story flows well, at a proper speed. Not rushed, but you still heart-racing and completely enthralling. I couldn't stop flipping the pages. Even when I got to the end, I furiously tapped my screen (even though I knew full well the story was over - I had passed the acknowledgements).

Needless to say that I totally recommend this book!

I received a copy of this book from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it. Thank you Lylah James!

I need to start by saying that I love Aylessio. So much. They are special. The first half of this book was emotionally charged. It starts off right where the previous one left off, and we discover the aftermath of the captivity. In true James fashion, we see and understand Ayla’s fragile state. Her panic attacks make our own hearts race. Her memories assaulting her make us want to comfort her. It’s crazy how REAL mear words on a page can be.

With the threat of Alberto still looming, the book still has some angst, but not as much as the previous two. This was a toned down book. It was all about the aftermath; the post-trauma environment. It was nice, but I’m a savage and wanted more blood and craziness near the end.

However, I am so happy about how the story turned out for Aylessio, and how this is a great jumping off point for many other stories for the other characters. Who’s next? And how fabulous is Nina by the way? I told you guys I’m a savage.

This book made me laugh more than the other two. With less danger, the characters really let loose, and we meet and couple of new ones... Erik’s mine people!

I’m so happy to have picked up this author’s books!

WOW. This book will break your heart. Shatter it to a million pieces. And you will love it. Your heart will threaten to jump out of your chest, but you will love it. You will lose sleep over this book, but you will love it. You will hate Lylah James, but love her at the same time because she’s brilliant.

James impressed me once again with the psychological aspects of the book. The description of someone breaking down. Such vivid and real descriptions not only from the first person narrative, but also through the third person. What it both looks like and feels like. That is something I fond unique in James’ writing. She is not afraid to make you read the same scene twice; once from each perspective. She gives you the whole story. She makes you understand her characters so fully, and she makes you believe in them. You become so emotionally invested this way.

It feels like I’ve been waiting a long time for a book like this. Heck a SERIES like this. From the moment I started book one, every single page has made my heart pound and kept me captivated. It had been a long time since I’ve read something so angst-y. This book flows so well with the first and reads just like it. I also have a feeling the same will be said for the third. I cannot wait to dive in!

I received an ebook copy of this book from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it. Thank you Lylah James!

This book ticks all the boxes of a good mafia book; angst, family feuds, violence, organized crime, hot as sin characters, and suspense. The other box it ticks is: effortlessly written. I’m bot saying the author wrote this book effortlessly, because I’m sure it’s a challenge to write a book - understatement of the year - but it reads so well. The words, sentences, chapters just flow so well, it’s hard to exert any self-control.

What impressed me most was how James was able to describe and express so vividly the effects if PTSD on a person. My heart skipped beats during those passages, I am sure if it. You’re reading it, and it’s just so well described that it truly feels real - as if you’re actually living it. *standing ovation*

The character development in this story just blew me away. It’s amazing seeing the characters both open up and evolve over the course of the book. Seeing connections being formed and friendships created. Seeing the characters experience emotion for the first time was also extremely interesting and impressive from a descriptive point of view.

Now to the romance. Oh. My. God. My. Heart. This book will put your heart to the test. Who needs cardio when you have this book? Honestly, my heart still hasn’t stopped racing. There are heart-stopping moments and heart-racing moments, sometimes one after another. This book should come with a warning : Heart Workout. (I’m funny aren’t I?) but anyways, there was some sweetness, some heat, and definitely some angst. Angst, angst, ANGST. Lylah James is the queen of Angst. I have hereby crowned her.

I am so glad to have discovered such an amazing author, and it makes me so happy that she’s Canadian (I have huge Canadian pride, don’t judge me). Peace out guys, part 2 is waiting for me.
